Breaking news in faculty grant lawsuit
Earlier this week, the Trump administration admitted that they scanned for keywords related to race, diversity, gender, vaccines, and other topics anathema to the administration when deciding which UC faculty research grants to cancel. This revelation has significant legal consequences for UC faculty fighting to restore their grants because it suggests the administration violated the First Amendment’s free speech protections. It also has potential consequences for researchers and scholars across the country who are likewise fighting this administration’s attempts at political coercion.
We only know this because UC faculty, supported and organized by their Faculty Associations, acted collectively to defend the grants by filing lawsuits against the Trump administration. Now more than ever, we need your membership!
It hasn’t been the UC Chancellors, or the UC Office of the President, or the UC Regents fighting the Trump administration: it’s been faculty like you joining their Faculty Association and supporting these actions through their dues, their organizing, and their testimony.
These lawsuits are costly, and we’re up against a presidential administration with unlimited resources. To continue defending faculty rights, we need you!
