Dear colleague,
The Council of UC Faculty Associations (CUCFA), as well as the individual Faculty Associations on all ten UC campuses, are pleased to announce that the Trump administration has dropped its appeal of the court order blocking it from forcing the UC to pay a $1.2 billion settlement and freezing more than $500 million in federal research funding.
Our legal battle is not over–it will continue to be litigated in the same federal district court which granted us the preliminary injunction–but this ruling is very good news because it ensures that the injunction against the coercive Trump administration “demand letter” remains in place.
The UC administration itself was not part of this lawsuit, which was instead the work of CUCFA, the campus Faculty Associations, the American Association of University Professors (AAUP), and our UC union partners. To learn more, watch our 7-minute video explainer on the history of the lawsuit. Your FA membership ensures that this fight for our university can continue.
JOIN YOUR FAUC faculty are continuing the fight to secure research funding, faculty economic welfare, and academic freedom from political coercion. This month, CUCFA and the FAs have launched a campaign to support SB 895, a bipartisan bill that would create the California Foundation for Health and Science Research. The foundation would be funded by a $23 billion state bond and would award grants and loans to fund science and health research.
Read more about the bill and take action to support California science by signing an open letter and indicating you would like to get more involved in the FAs’ SB895 campaign.
