Dear colleague,
As we hope you’ve heard by now, faculty are fighting back. The Council of UC Faculty Association (CUCFA) and Faculty Associations at all ten campuses—together with AAUP, AFT International, UC-AFT, AFSCME Local 3299, UPTE CWA Local 9119, UAW 4811, California Nurses Association/National Nurses Union, and Teamsters Local 2010—have filed suit against the Trump administration’s illegal cuts. We want the funding restored.
Our AAUP partners already won the Harvard case that restored $2.2 billion in research funding. Our goal is “to have the UC administration be in a position of strength…to fight back”, UCLA FA President Anna Markowitz told the LA Times. The lawsuit has been widely covered in state and national news outlets.
Here’s how you can act now:
- Sign our petition to tell UCOP not to negotiate. → Take action here.
- Join CUCFA and AAUP today (your dues make actions like this lawsuit possible!) → cucfa.org/join
- Tell your colleagues! Share the petition on social media and in your networks.
The Regents and UCOP still have time to make the right choice.
CUCFA, and the AAUP are fighting for the restoration of vital research funding and the defense of academic freedom, the lifeblood of our university community. Join the fight. Defend our university.
Best wishes,
The CUCFA Board
