In the last few months, faculty throughout the UC system have taken extraordinary actions to defend higher education. The Faculty Association, along with our state-wide federation, CUCFA, and our national ally, the American Association of University Professors (AAUP), have won several significant victories.
- Faculty Associations supported a class action lawsuit that restored federal funds across the UC system.
- Faculty Associations joined with unions representing all UC workers to sue the Trump administration to prevent the University from capitulating under financial coercion – and won!
- Faculty Associations (led by UCLA’s Faculty Association) sued for the release of the Trump demand letter to UCLA – and won!
- Faculty Associations filed an amicus brief in support of AAUP’s lawsuit that affirms non-citizens’ free speech rights – and won!
- Faculty members spoke out against a proposal to cut the hiring incentive for the President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (PPFP) – and won! On November 18, UC President James Milliken acknowledged the great value of the PPFP and pledged that UCOP will maintain the hiring incentive.
The Faculty Associations depend on faculty members’ dues and efforts to win these important victories. Please help us continue this work by joining your local Faculty Association and getting involved.
