President Mark G. Yudof
Office of the President
University of California
1111 Franklin St., 12th Floor
Oakland, CA 94607
Dear President Yudof,
The Council of UC Faculty Associations (CUCFA) has been closely following the efforts made this summer to outsource UCRP’s benefits administration. Last week, Mary Croughan, as Chair of the Academic Council, released a letter that expressed several concerns she had with that effort. CUCFA is in agreement with Dr. Croughan. We are concerned that the outsourcing will raise costs, especially over time, without significantly improving service. We also second the proposal to explore the option of a “co-sourcing solution” – acquiring improved technology to support the existing in-house UCRP administration.
We’d like to remind you that the California Legislature recently passed a bill (SCR 52 by Senator Yee) memorializing the University that shared governance of the University of California Retirement Plan, by trustees representing the employer and the faculty and staff, is necessary to ensure the plan is well managed. Thus, we hope very much that you will weigh heavily the opinions of the faculty on this issue.
Respectfully,
Joe Kiskis
Vice President for External Relations
Council of UC Faculty Associations
